Emirates Steel celebrates 'Steel Safety Day’

ABU DHABI, May 2, 2016

Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Steel, the only integrated steel plant in the UAE, recently organised a safety awareness campaign targeting its internal workforce, celebrating in conjunction with World Steel Association’s ‘Steel Safety Day’.

More than 1,000 employees participated in the campaign that aims to encourage better safety in the steel industry and to highlight on the five most common causes of safety incidents: moving machinery, falling from height, falling objects, gas and asphyxiation, and moving cranes, said a statement from Emirates Steel, a subsidiary of Senaat.

This year, the company focused specifically on the occupational safety topics of falling from heights, in addition to the theme of ‘You are The Key to Our Safety”, which calls on everyone to gather for a pledge that affirms their commitment to safety, it added.

To mark this day, the CEO and members of the executive committee visited various locations in the company to reinforce safety awareness and educate the team on the main causes of incidents and how to prevent them, it said.

Working hand in hand with the World Steel Association and in line with the international safety standards, Emirates Steel, a Senaat company, continues to develop its safety procedures and create a safer working environment within its premises and plants with the aim to raise awareness of hazards and associated risks, said the statement.

Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, CEO of Emirates Steel, said: “There is nothing more important for us than the health and safety of our employees and ensuring that they all return home safely to their families.”

“We are dedicating this day to highlight and strengthen our safety and implement greater safety awareness in our company,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
