Abu Dhabi Ports sets up women’s committee

ABU DHABI, August 29, 2016

Abu Dhabi Ports, in commemoration of Emirati Women’s Day, has launched its first Women’s Committee which aims to reinforce the unique role women play in the ports sector and wider local community.

Abu Dhabi Ports is the master developer, manager and operator of ports and Khalifa Industrial Zone.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi said: “Women empowerment is high on our agenda at Abu Dhabi Ports.”

“The launch of the Women’s Committee comes as testament to our commitment to the government’s vision of empowering women to contribute positively to society and to providing women with the necessary development opportunities within a motivating work environment,” he said.

“The committee will be tasked with championing the cause of empowering female employees and ensuring their happiness at Abu Dhabi Ports,” he added.

“Emirati women make up 78 per cent of the total number of our female workforce while they represent 34 per cent of total Emiratis at the company. In a male-dominated industry, it is vital that we ensure women are motivated, empowered, and have access to the same opportunities available for men. Women bring new perspectives, approaches and insights to our operations that keep us ahead of our competition,” Al Shamisi stated.

“Our wise government has continuously worked to eliminate all obstacles standing in the way of women’s advancement in all fields of work and we aim to mirror that vision to ensure every employee of both genders reaches their full potential which will then reflect positively on our business,” he concluded.

Dr Noura Al Dhaheri, general manager of Maqta Gateway and the selected president of Abu Dhabi Ports’ Women’s Committee, said: “I am privileged to have been selected as a president of the committee. With this privilege comes great responsibility and I am excited to start working with my female counterparts on finding creative ways for empowering women at work in our sector.”

“I would like to extend my appreciation to HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak for her endless support of women which inspires me and my Emiratis sisters,” she added. – TradeArabia News Service
