The 3 new ship-to-shore quay cranes

Three new STS quay cranes arrive at Khalifa Port

ABU DHABI, December 27, 2016

Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT), the manager and operator of Khalifa Port Container Terminal (KPCT), has announced the arrival of three of the largest ship-to-shore quay cranes in the world to accommodate growing volumes and demand at Khalifa Port Container Terminal (KPCT).

Transported from China on specially-built vessels, the latest additions complement the current 9 STS cranes already operational at the facility, said a statement from the company.

The Super Post Panamax cranes, commissioned from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry (ZMPC), were delivered on November 10 and follow ADT’s recent milestone of 5 million TEUs being handled at KPCT since its establishment in 2012, it said.

The STS cranes are designed to the highest industry specifications; capable of handling the world’s largest container ships (VLCCs) and will provide an additional capacity of 600,00 TEUs per annum to complete Phase 1 of 2,5 mio TEU’s of capacity  at the world-class port facility, it added.

One of the STS cranes measures 126.5 meters in height and weighs 1,932 tons with an outreach of 65 meters (covering 26 rows) and a lifting capacity of 90 tonnes. This new equipment will ensure continued and sustained cargo growth and provide increased value, efficiency, and speed for Port Khalifa’s customers.

Martijn Van De Linde, chief executive officer, ADT, said: “Our customers demand the fastest possible turnarounds with the and highest levels of operational performance and safety.”

“At our company, we are consistently investing in the most cutting-edge equipment to meet and exceed their needs,” he said.

“PKCT has become a crucial logistics hub and we’re extremely proud of this latest infrastructural investment as it further enables us to support and encourage socio-economic growth of the region,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
