Feasibility studies under way for new Oman Air Cargo Village

MUSCAT, 7 days ago

Oman's Tanfeedh, a national programme for enhancing economic diversification, has revealed that feasibility studies for establishing the Air Cargo Village at Muscat International Airport have commenced, said a report.

The proposed project, one of more than 120 initiatives envisioned for implementation by Tanfeedh over the next several years, will position Oman as a regional hub for air cargo and air logistics services, said the Oman Daily Observer report.

Together with as many as 16 logistics-related investments and initiatives mooted by Tanfeedh, it will also help meet the government’s long-term aspirations to create a logistics-centric economy in the sultanate, it said.

The Cargo Village project is envisioned as a hub for a wide array of investments and activities related to air freight storage and warehousing, freight handling and forwarding, customs and inspections services, shipping and repackaging, value enhancement, and distribution.

The project will be the first port of call for businesses, service providers and other stakeholders engaged in what is billed as a hugely promising economic sector.

Also expected to play a prominent role in the project are the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Oman Airports Management Company, national carrier Oman Air, Asyad Group, and other stakeholders, added the report.
