Dubai-Canada non-oil trade tops $1.36bn

DUBAI, January 14, 2018

The total value of non-oil trade between Dubai, UAE and Canada in the first nine months in 2017 was Dh5 billion ($1.36 billion), said Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, director of Dubai Customs.

“Imports had the lion’s share with Dh4.4 billion, followed by re-exports with Dh361 million and exports with Dh180.6 million,” he added.

Musabih recently held a meeting with Emmanuel Kamarianakis, Consul General of Canada in Dubai. The two discussed means of boosting cooperation between Canada and Dubai especially in bilateral trade and customs business.

“It’s very important for us to boost ties of partnership with Canadian diplomatic missions and business councils and corporates. We have priorities which include delivering a leading customs experience to the world,” said Musabih.

“Enhancing trade ties with our partners will help them receive the best customs facilitations which will add great value to their business. There are 150 Canadian companies that have activities in the UAE, and we work with them to keep them involved in developmental efforts to help them benefit from our product and service offerings,” he noted.

Kamarianakis applauded Dubai Customs’ efforts in supporting national economy and developing tourism and trade stating that Dubai is a world-class trade and tourism hub and a central link between the east and west. – TradeArabia News Service
