Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy signs MoU with Siemens Energy

TASHKENT, April 19, 2021

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Siemens Energy AG of Germany and agreed on a roadmap for future, joint projects between the two entities.
 
Cooperation between the two parties is anticipated in several areas, including projects to build new generating facilities; power audit facilities in Uzbekistan to introduce of energy-efficient technologies; hydrogen energy; and training of personnel.
 
The MoU was signed by Energy Minister Alisher Sultanov, and Siemens Energy AG President, Christian Bruch, who was visiting Uzbekistan.
 
The MoU expresses the interest of both parties to explore the potential to expand a strategic partnership in Uzbekistan and pursue the implementation of joint projects.
 
Sultanov said: “Uzbekistan is continuing its momentum of working with best-in-class international partners, to deliver on our energy strategy.  We are aiming to lead the hydrocarbon-producing world and meeting our climate management commitments. Siemens is globally renowned and we look forward to deepening our relationship.”
In particular, the roadmap includes projects to:
• Introduce cogeneration technologies on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) principles;
• Construction of a new thermal power plant (TPP) with a capacity of 1300-1600 MW;
• Participate in the modernisation of the Hajabad compressor station; and
• Create innovative training centres.
 
A formal working group to take collaboration forward will be established within 10 days of the MoU being signed.
 
It is envisaged that the MoU will yield immediate activity during 2021, with a site determined for the TPP in May 2021, and agreements anticipated for developing hydrogen and renewable energy by the summer. -- Tradearabia News Service
