Colombia Pavilion to hold talk on mining at Expo 2020

DUBAI, November 2, 2021

Representatives from the mining sector, companies and Colombian leading officials are set to discuss the potentials and opportunities to invest in the country’s mineral resources at Dubai Expo 2020. 
 
In a series of upcoming conferences within the framework themed ‘Colombia Beyond El Dorado Mining Leyend’, the events, which will take place at the Colombia Pavilion seeking to explore the progress made in the mining sector and how new sustainability and innovation trends promote the use of natural resources such as metals and other minerals.
 
José Manuel Restrepo, Minister of Finance of Colombia, and Juan Miguel Duran, President of the Nation Mining Agency, will be among the leading speakers during the conference. They will discuss the current investment climate in Colombia and the favourable market conditions for foreign direct investments. 
 
Duran’s conference will shed light on the country’s ideal geological location as a rich source of minerals, as well as the current regulations in the mining sector which help ensure the sustainable management of natural resources to lessen environmental impact.
 
Duran said: “Expo 2020 Dubai has opened the gates to new conversations on technology, innovation and sustainable development. Colombia’s presence at the world’s fair paves the way to present to the world our potential in the areas of mining, agriculture, technology, and renewable resources. We believe it is the right time to discuss the sustainability and progress of the mining industry at the global level through this conference.”
 
Duran said: “With Colombia’s low FDI barriers, we are confident that we have the competitive advantage to add new growth opportunities for businesses in the UAE, the Middle East, and other parts of the world. We are keen to present the various sectors in which Colombia has been performing very well, such as business process outsourcing, agribusiness, renewable energy and digital technology. Investors will see how they can investors can leverage Colombia’s position in Latin America to expand their growth.”
 
Finally, Duran stated that it is necessary to generate innovative strategies to increase mining sector’s competitiveness, while generating benefits for the government, employment and companies.
