BREAKING NEWS: Quake felt in Dubai, Iran

Dubai, May 27, 2014

The United Arab Emirates and parts of Iran experienced a mild earthquake this morning. No report of loss of life or damage to property has been reported yet.

Reports said the quake jolted buildings in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and parts of Iran, sending people running onto streets. Several buildings were evacuatedin Dubai.

The quake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale and the epicentre was in South Iran. It hit at 9.44 am UAE time about 157 km NE of Dubai, reports said.

The quake was centered few kilometres from Qeshm Island in Iran, Samaa TV said. The Qeshm Island is located a few kilometers off the southern coast of Iran, opposite the port cities of Bandar Abbas and Bandar Khamir.

The island is just 60km from the Omani port of Khasab, and about 180km, Samaa TV said.
