Saudi arrests 3 over shooting of Dane, link to IS

RIYADH, December 11, 2014

Saudi Arabian security forces have arrested three Saudis over the November 22 shooting of a Danish man in Riyadh and investigations show the attack was carried out in support of the Islamic State militant group, the state news agency said.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted an interior ministry spokesman as saying security forces also recovered the handgun used in the shooting.

"Initial investigations showed that the perpetrators carried out their crime in support of the terrorist Islamic State, they were trained two weeks before perpetrating the crime," the spokesman said.

A group of supporters of Islamic State later released a video said to show its members carrying out the shooting, which the victim survived.

The video, filmed from inside a vehicle driving along a street with Riyadh neighbourhood signposts, shows a handgun being fired through an open window at a white car travelling in the same direction.

Islamic State in November urged supporters in Saudi Arabia, which is participating in air strikes against the group in Syria, to attack Shi'ite Muslims, government officials and Westerners.-Reuters
