Astrata forms JV with Al Tayer

Dubai, February 7, 2008

US-based Astrata Group has formed a joint venture with Dubai’s Al Tayer Group to market its advanced, full featured telematics products in the Middle East.

Astrata Middle East will offer its state-of-the-art vehicle and personnel tracking products with supporting infrastructure and services directly to Middle East customers, leveraging on the company’s success and experience worldwide, particularly the Asia Pacific region where Astrata is one of the leading providers of telematics solutions.

Astrata Group is a US publicly listed company.  It is focused on advanced location-based IT services and solutions (telematics) that combine GPS positioning, wireless communications (satellite or terrestrial) and geographical information technology, which together enable businesses and institutions to monitor, trace as well as control the movement and status of machinery, vehicles, personnel or other assets.  Astrata has designed, developed, manufactured and currently supports seven generations of telematics systems with units deployed worldwide.

Through Al Tayer Group’s considerable profile and the many opportunities, Astrata executive chairman, Tony Harrison is confident of the new company’s potential. He said: “By joining forces with Al Tayer Group, one of the best known and most respected organisations in the region, Astrata will have a tremendous advantage in introducing its telematics products to institutional customers in the Middle East region.”

“The formation of this new company follows distributor agreements between us (Astrata) and a number of channel partners in Middle Eastern countries including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bharain and Oman.  Our business in the Middle East has previously been managed out of Singapore but due to the growing interest in vehicle and asset tracking, we firmly believe we must have a permanent marketing and support base in the region.”

Dr Tariq Al Tayer, director, Al Tayer Group, commented: “We recognise that Astrata’s telematics products are much in demand by relevant customers located in the Middle East.  Astrata’s sophisticated security and communications systems will offer institutional customers in the region an effective and proven means of protecting and monitoring their resources.”
