Telecom Egypt posted a net profit of 557 million Egyptian pounds ($104 million) on Thursday for the first quarter of 2008, 4.8 percent lower than in the same period last year.

The company, which has a monopoly on fixed-line phone service in Egypt, said total fixed-line subscribers reached 11.3 million, up 3 per cent on the same period of 2007.-Reuters
