Batelco, Bahrain’s leading telecom operator, has clarified that SMS messages about ‘Batelco Wireless 50th Anniversary Celebrations’ are not true.
“It has come to our attention that some customers have received a message informing them that they would receive BD5 free talk time if they forward the message to 10 other Batelco customers,” said Batelco Group board secretary and company spokesman Ahmed Al Janahi.
This unfortunately is a SPAM text, he said.
The content of the message is as follows: “Today is BATELCO Wireless 50th Anniversary Celebration Ceremony. Transfer this SMS to 10 Batelco Customers & get BD 5 Talk time free.”
“Batelco’s network team has now blocked this message but we wanted to notify customers who have received it that it is a SPAM.”
He said if customers continue to receive further messages or wish to report issues of unwanted SMS messages, they can send an email to bulksms@batelco.com.bh with name, phone number, date and time of receiving the SMS, message source (sender) and message text .
“We appreciate customers’ tolerance and understanding and would like to assure them that Batelco is working on ensuring that their rights and privacy as a consumer are protected,” added Al Janahi.
