Microsoft, HCT host ‘digital lifestyle’ event

Microsoft Gulf in partnership with Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) recently hosted an event themed around the digital lifestyle of a student at the campus of the Abu Dhabi Men’s College.

Microsoft showcased and demonstrated several of its key consumer products including its latest operating system, Windows 7; Windows Phone; Windows Live Services; Internet Explorer 8; Xbox 360 and Windows Media Center and showed how the company is delivering on its vision for a digital lifestyle where devices, services and applications work together seamlessly.

In addition, the event aimed to educate and inform technology students  of several opportunities available to them including Imagine Cup, the world’s premier student technology competition; free access to professional software through the DreamSpark programme and connections to employers through the Students to Business programme.

“Technology has always been a fundamental building block for effective learning and hence remains at the core of higher education across all disciplines,” Dr Tayeb Kamali, vice chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology.

“Digital Lifestyle Today is yet another opportunity for our students to remain abreast of innovations in information technology,” he added.

“Microsoft and HCT have been working closely over the years in ensuring our students have access the latest tools and technologies that prepare them for a successful career in the globalised business environment.”

Charbel Fakhoury, general manager, Microsoft Gulf, said: “Today, students live in a world with more digital content and information than ever before. Microsoft’s goal with an event such as this is to equip the next generation of leaders with a rich set of productivity and collaboration tools as they move from campus to business environments and prepare them for future success.”

Dr Simon Jones, director of Abu Dhabi Men’s College added: “Technology has revolutionised the daily life of a student by keeping them connected and giving them a platform to effectively collaborate. As part of our continuing commitment to education, we have created an advanced learning environment across our campus whereby students have the technology tools they need to set them on the path to academic and career success.”

Microsoft also opened registrations for its premier technology competition, the eighth annual Gulf Imagine Cup 2010 at the Digital Lifestyle day. – TradeArabia News Service
