Kuwaiti telecoms company Zain has appointed Khaled Al-Hajeri, chief executive of its Kuwaiti unit, as acting CEO of the group until further notice, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Hajeri will be appointed in caretaking capacity of the group, until a decision is taken on Barrak's replacement,' Kuwaiti daily Al-Rai said in an unsourced report. Zain was not available to comment.
Former Zain chief executive Saad Al-Barrak, seen as the driving force behind the company becoming the third-largest telecoms operator in the Arab world, resigned last week amid uncertainty over the fate of a $13.7 billion deal to sell a 46 percent stake in the firm.
Zain operates in Africa and the Middle East. Most of its revenue in 2009 came from regions where Zain had recently established itself, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Ghana. - Reuters
