Transguard appoints new security services director

Dubai, August 3, 2011

Dubai-based businesses support services company Transguard Group, an Emirates Group company, has appointed Alan Macmillan as its new director of security services.

British national Macmillan brings with him almost 20 years of operational and security experience, after successfully managing key positions in the UAE and across the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.

In his new role at Transguard, Macmillan will be responsible for reinforcing the company’s position at the forefront of the region’s security industry, while also playing a key role in developing its total facilities management business.

“Transguard has given me the opportunity to be part of a progressive organisation with continuous improvement initiatives, based on clear standards and expectations. This will lay the foundations in order to deliver even more consistent value-led services throughout all of its security related contracts,” said Macmillan.

Macmillan started his career with the British Army as a communications specialist and special forces operator supporting UK government agencies in high-risk environments around the world. After a highly successful armed forces career, Macmillan worked for a number of organisations operating in the Middle East and Africa, directing risk management, safety and security strategies.

Commenting on Transguard’s latest management appointment, Geoff Shewry, Transguard’s deputy managing director said, “Our goal is to be the employer of choice within our industry. This all starts by selecting and recruiting the right people. With Alan’s undoubted leadership qualities and operational experience, I am convinced that he will drive our security business to new levels.”

Macmillan was educated in the UK and holds a raft of BTEC and NVQ vocational qualifications such as a diploma in security and risk management as well as technical surveillance countermeasures. He is also a member of the Security Institute (UK) and is currently the Vice-chairman for the UAE chapter of ASIS International, the largest organisation for security professionals with more than 35,000 members worldwide.  -TradeArabia News Service
