Silatech, Microsoft to launch jobs portal

Doha, April 18, 2012

Silatech, a social enterprise which promotes large-scale job creation, and Microsoft have joined forces to create a network of employability portals in Arab countries.

The portal will provide a single place for tools, advisors, training, opportunities, events, mentors, online resources, internships, and communities for young people to access.

The regional youth employment and entrepreneurship programmes on the agenda includes the recent launch of MasrWorks, an online employability portal that helps Egyptian youth and jobs seekers to make a successful transition into the world of work.

The companies plan to build other employability portals for countries throughout the region, with Qatar being the first.

Akhtar Badshah, Microsoft VP for Community Relations, and Jeffrey Avina, director of Citizenship and Community Affairs, Microsoft Middle East and Africa, recently met with Silatech representatives and discussed plans.

Badshah and Avina also toured the Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development, a joint initiative of Silatech and Qatar Development Bank.

Bedaya is one of the first organisations in the region to implement the “Build Your Business” curriculum for entrepreneurs developed by Microsoft and its partners. They then lead a roundtable discussion on social entrepreneurship with representatives of three Qatari youth-focused social enterprises and Bedaya’s entrepreneurship specialists.

Silatech and Microsoft have named Bedaya as the local operating partner for Qatar’s first employability portal, QatarWorks. – TradeArabia News Service
