Etisalat to participate in Mobile World event

UAE-based Etisalat has announced its participation at the annual Mobile World Congress 2013 to highlight its accomplishments and leadership in the telecom sector and provide insight into its future projects in the country.

Global attendees will benefit from learning about Etisalat’s experience and achievements in building the most advanced ICT infrastructure in the region as it was the first telecom major in the country to launch the 4G LTE network - which now covers 80 per cent of the inhabited area within UAE, a statement from the company said.

Mobile World Congress 2013, which will be held from February 25 to 28 at Barcelona, Spain, will witness the attendance of major telecom companies, high profile global industry experts from the telecom and IT sectors and also offers a chance to view the latest technologies on display by the global operators and vendors in the ICT services and solutions sector.

Saleh Abdullah Al Abdooli, CEO of Etisalat UAE, said: “The mobile ecosystem has witnessed rapid changes over the years with innovation taking center stage in creating new applications in the technology as well as the telecom segment. Etisalat has proved itself locally as well globally with its investments in the network and providing innovative services and solutions to our customers.”

Etisalat already provides coverage to 80 per cent of the UAE's populated areas with its 4G LTE network and 99.8 per cent of UAE with more than 5000 2G/3G stations and successfully completed the fastest speed test for LTE network at a speed of 300 Mb/sec.

The telecom major has also invested Dh19 billion in installing its fiber optics network laying more than 2.8 million kms covering most of the country. This huge network places UAE in the second rank globally in terms of fiber optics coverage, with a slight margin behind South Korea, leading in global market, the statement said.
