Batelco lauds TRA broadband decision

Manama, April 1, 2014

Bahrain's leading telecom services operator Batelco has expressed delight at Telecommunications Regulatory Authority's (TRA) decision to remove regulatory obligations on the company for mass-market fixed broadband services.

Batelco Bahrain CEO Rashid Abdulla said: "We are very pleased and truly appreciate the TRA’s decision to remove the retail and wholesale regulatory restrictions from the mass-market segment. This is good news and a forward looking step which will facilitate us to provide more innovative and competitive services to the benefit of the consumer market."

"We have been striving to compete fairly in the local market in recent years but with the significant competition from several less regulated Broadband operators, both over mobile and fixed services, it has been difficult to meet our customers’ expectations,” he stated.

However, Abdulla pointed out that Batelco still retains its regulatory restrictions for serving the business sector with broadband services.

“We are looking forward to be relieved from such restrictions in order to better serve this important sector of the national economy. Batelco is committed to ongoing investment in the Kingdom’s infrastructure and improving the quality of its services," said the official.

"We will continue working in close cooperation with the TRA  towards achieving deregulation of business broadband," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
