Bahrain simplifies mobile number migration

Manama, April 20, 2014

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Bahrain has significantly reduced the processing time for mobile number portability services that allow users to retain their numbers even after they migrate from one provider to another.

According to revised regulations issued by the TRA, service providers are legally bound to complete a request within eight business hours, which was earlier set at 48 hours, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

The processing time for a fixed number portability request has also been slashed from 72 hours to eight, but can be extended for another eight business hours, in case the provider faces any technical difficulties.

GCC citizens who had availed services in Bahrain using their IDs can also benefit from this move.

A total of 125,684 mobile number portability requests have been processed since the facility was first introduced by the TRA in 2011. – TradeArabia News Service
