Huawei to help build smart cities at Gitex

DUBAI, September 17, 2014

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, is set to conduct a full programme of activities to help ‘Build a Better Connected World’ at this year’s Gitex Technology Week, through an end-to-end portfolio of smart city solutions and expertise.

The visitors will be able to preview Huawei’s technology innovations across its three core business lines serving telecom operators, enterprise and government entities, as well as consumers throughout the region.

A line-up of regional and global Huawei experts will share insights about how the latest best practices in Smart City development will prove fundamental to improving the quality of life of citizens and businesses in the Middle East in the decade ahead.

The company’s smart city focus at Gitex follows a recent IDC report that stated government spending in the Middle East and Africa is set to top $8 billion, a 12 per cent increase as more regional governments expand their mobile government and online services.

Shi Yaohong, president of Huawei Middle East, said: “Our world is increasingly city-centric, and within the Middle East cities of the future will need to become more intelligent through connected infrastructure that can positively transform the way in which citizens and businesses experience their world.

“We hope to work with regional governments in the future to help them become better connected and will be announcing key insights during the exhibition that will help them achieve their smart city initiatives.  With an unparalleled heritage in ICT research & development, an end-to-end portfolio of technology solutions and experience in delivering projects across the Middle East, Huawei is ideally placed to make the Middle East cities of tomorrow a reality.”

“During this year’s Gitex, we also look forward to further strengthening our relationship with top regulators, channel partners, service providers and customers from around the globe as technology innovations continue to help drive businesses’ bottom lines.”

The company is set to showcase advancements in ultra-broadband network technologies such as fibre optics, LTE-advanced, and the fifth generation mobile broadband services.

It will also discuss further advancements in telecom applications and software, as well as ICT professional services.

As part of its strategy to drive the enterprise market, Huawei will unveil a series of new additions to its solutions portfolio, coupled with live demonstrations and interactive case studies offering strategic guidance to governments and businesses on how to approach smart city projects.

It will preview how an integrated portfolio of vertical industry solutions can be used to create a competitive business advantage in the fields of oil and gas power, transportation, government, hospitality, education and healthcare.

Another highlight at the exhibition will be Huawei’s demo truck, which will give visitors the opportunity to experience firsthand the latest innovations in data centre solutions, virtual servers and desktops, plus a wide range of vertical industry solutions.

Visitors will have access to a fully-functional Huawei container data centre operating in a live environment inside the demo truck. - TradeArabia News Service
