Batelco gets information security boost

MANAMA, September 23, 2015

Batelco, Bahrain’s leading communications solutions operator has been presented with four new ISO Certificates in Information Security (ISO 27001:2013), following a thorough and vigorous auditing process conducted by Certification Bureau Veritas. 
 
The certification were for e-services, retail operations, data centres and wholesale operations, said a statement.
 
Batelco has upgraded its existing Information Security Certification from ISO 27001:2005 to ISO 27001:2013 following a thorough transition audit, it said.
 
A number of Batelco teams, headed by the Information Security team, worked together to complete the comprehensive process to meet all standard requirements which was verified by the Bureau Veritas auditing team. 
 
Being a certified organisation, Batelco applies international security standards in protecting the data of its customers and staff as part of its integrated risk management programme within the organisation’s strategic plan.
 
Gaining the new upgraded certification proves Batelco’s due diligence in protecting and securing corporate confidential data and supports the Company’s efforts for compliance with relevant laws and regulations, said the statement.
 
Additionally the certification demonstrates Batelco’s credibility and trust and shows its commitment to information security at all levels throughout the organization, it said.
 
Suhaila Alnowakhda, Batelco Bahrain general manager - Human Resources and Corporate Services, presented the awards to the managers of the certified areas. 
 
Zulfiqar Haider, chief executive of Certification Bureau Veritas Bahrain, was in attendance at the event which was attended by a number of Batelco’s staff who were involved in applying the ISO standards within the various units.
 
“Our customers deserve full care and provision of complete security for their data. We are committed to our customers’ data confidentiality in all our operations,” said Alnowakhda. 
 
“This success wouldn’t have been possible without the senior managements’ commitment. This means Batelco’s interest was not confined to dealing with customers’ data with high confidentiality, but also to ensure – via an independent body – that its approach in dealing with customers’ information is in line with the international standards,” Haider added. - TradeArabia News Service
