Thuraya CEO wins top honour
DUBAI, October 1, 2015
Samer Halawi, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Thuraya Telecommunications Company, was honoured by the Asia-Pacific Satellite Communications Council (APSCC) at its annual conference.
Halawi was named the ‘Satellite Executive of the Year’ at APSCC’s 12th annual awards ceremony, which took place recently in Seoul, South Korea.
Since his appointment as CEO in 2011, Thuraya has gone on to deliver a sustained transformation, with a double-digit compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11 per cent from 2011 to 2014, it said.
A leading mobile satellite services (MSS) operator, Thuraya has been enjoying triple digit growth in Asia for three years in a row in the maritime sector alone, and expects this sector to grow further due to strong demand for its products, which offer both exceptional performance and value, and a competitive alternative for customers, it added.
Speaking on his win, Halawi said: “This award recognises the success of the Thuraya team, and the difference we are making together with our partners across the Asia Pacific region.”
“We want to make a difference in other ways too, and the company’s purpose is to save and improve lives. That is a humbling responsibility, and one we take very seriously. It shapes us as a team, and as a company,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
