Batelco launches new direct carrier billing service

MANAMA, December 11, 2016

Batelco, Bahrain’s leading digital services provider, has announced the launch of direct carrier billing service with Google, to make it easier for Android users to purchase apps, games, books and movies on their smart devices.

With the introduction of direct carrier billing with Google, Batelco’s customers can now perform any online purchase transaction through the Google Play Store by paying for their purchases without the need of using their credit cards, said a statement from Batelco.

Direct Carrier Billing will allow Batelco’s customers to pay for digital content on Google Play Store by billing purchases to their mobile accounts; postpaid or prepaid. Once the payment option is set up, customers will be able to charge app and content purchases from the Google Play Store directly to their mobile accounts, it stated.

On the new service, Batelco Bahrain CEO Muna Al Hashemi said: "Batelco has always focused on delivering superior experience to customers by transforming their lifestyles. With the current trend to simplify payment for products and services we are very pleased to offer direct carrier billing with Google for our customers."

“Batelco has paved the way on numerous occasions to deliver innovative, convenient and customer-focused services. We believe that the capability to pay for apps and content without the need for using a credit card will be a great benefit for our customers,” she observed.

Batelco chief marketing officer Mike Stanford said: "Direct Carrier Billing is another step towards digitalization and it will empower all, particularly youths and their parents, to better control their budgets while enjoying all the features of the Google Play Store without the need of a credit card."

The Google Play store is the official application store for Android smartphones and tablets. Google makes software applications, movies and books available for purchase and download through the store.

The Google Play store, which comes pre-installed on Android devices, allows users to purchase, download and install applications from Google and third-party developers.

With this new service, Batelco android customers can simply use their existing Gmail credentials and choose ‘Batelco Billing’ to pay through the operator. Direct Carrier Billing is being offered to both Batelco’s prepaid and postpaid subscribers.-TradeArabia News Service
