Bahrain to set up first contact centre

Manama, November 20, 2008

A plan to build Bahrain's first National Contact Centre, creating 200 jobs for Bahrainis, was announced.

The aim is to improve public access to government departments by providing a range of services under one roof - including information on office locations, document requirements, government procedures, laws and visa regulations, among other things.

A BD109,500 contract to design and build the centre has been awarded to BDO Jawad Habib by the eGovernment Authority.

"The development of a National Contact Centre is a revolutionary step towards improving communication within the Kingdom of Bahrain," said eGovernment Authority chief executive officer Mohammed Al Qaed.

Women are expected to make up a significant number of the centre staff, who will be trained to international standards in both English and Arabic.-TradeArabia News Service
