Heroin mule is jailed for life in Bahrain

Manama, March 24, 2014

A drug mule who was caught with 56 capsules of pure heroin in his stomach has been jailed for life.

The 22-year-old Pakistani was arrested at Bahrain International Airport while smuggling drugs weighing 600gm, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Suspicious Customs officers detained him and transferred him to Salmaniya Medical Complex, where the drugs showed up on an X-ray of his stomach.

He was convicted by the High Criminal Court yesterday, which also fined him BD10,000 ($26,372).

Two other alleged drug dealers were arrested with the help of the 22-year-old, but are standing trial in a separate case.

"A Pakistani man told me to swallow these capsules and give it to a Pakistani man in Bahrain worth 300,000 Pakistani rupees," he said in his statement to prosecutors.

"I was then caught and I helped the police arrest two other Pakistani drug dealers in Bahrain."

He will spend 25 years behind bars before being deported. - TradeArabia News Service
