Saudis seize 68,000 bottles of wine in Q1
Riyadh, April 30, 2014
Saudi authorities have confiscated 68,000 bottles of wine from January 1 to March end this year, a customs spokesperson was quoted as saying.
Eisa Al-Qudaibi said they have adopted modern steps to check the transport of liquor at entry points along the borders, an Arab News report said.
The official said the liquor bottles were stashed in trucks for animal transportation and other goods.
He said that smugglers were resorting to innovative methods to bring liquor into the kingdom, but alert officers at checkpoints were able to see through such plots and foil them.
Meanwhile, Jeddah Municipality officials destroyed 9,562 litres of locally produced liquor during a raid on a complex.
