Bahrain mulls 100pc tobacco tax

Manama, May 10, 2014

Bahrain could soon charge 100 per cent import duty on all tobacco products, said a report in our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.

A proposal to amend the anti-tobacco law will be on the agenda of parliament on Tuesday.

The draft law urges a ban on opening cafes for smokers in clubs and public parks. Violators could be fined up to BD2,000 ($5,277) under the new rules, the report added.-TradeArabia News Service
