Bahrain to plan suqs revamp
Manama, July 10, 2014
The revamping of Bahrain's heritage markets, particularly the Al Qaysariya market in Muharraq and the Old Manama suq was the focus of discussion recently.
Culture Minister Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa yesterday (July 9) received a delegation from the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI), said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
Shaikha Mai said the revamping process will be carried out within a comprehensive plan to maintain the identity of these iconic suqs and revive their pivotal role.
The meeting highlighted the importance of providing car parks and ensuring safety in the markets to attract visitors.
The ministry and the BCCI's traditional markets committee agreed to visit Old Manama suq next week and host a lecture on ways to revive old markets, to be delivered by Dr Ala'a Al Habshi. - TradeArabia News Service
