Bahrain King urges to get tougher on terror

MANAMA, September 4, 2014

Bahrain’s King Hamad has urged authorities to take stringent counter-terrorism measures, decisively and earnestly.

"Strict measures must be expedited to confront terrorism, or else it will spread out to our lands," he said as he yesterday visited BDF General Command headquarters, reported the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Allied countries have taken crucial measures to protect their security, including the right to citizenship, he said.

The King ordered the implementation of urgent measures against those instigating or funding terrorism, or trying to undermine the country's security, or sully its reputation - locally and abroad - in accordance with the law.

“We are facing unconventional challenges. Extremist groups are tampering with security and stability, trying to erode our solidarity and national cohesion,” he said.

“Some figures and organisations attempt to tarnish Bahrain's reputation, locally and abroad, and seek to harm the national economy,” His Majesty pointed out.

“Extremist groups are also luring youngsters into acts of violence, and we can't afford to sit on our hands in the face of such a situation.

“It is a collective responsibility, which requires firm will and determination.”

He urged to enforce the law against those who misuse social media to disseminate subversive ideas and provoke resentment in society in the name of freedom of expression or human rights.

His Majesty said freedom of expression is guaranteed in Bahrain and governed by the law and ethics as well as religious platforms. - TradeArabia News Service
