Bahrain slams UK paper report 'inaccurate'

MANAMA, September 11, 2014

The Information Affairs Authority (IAA) of Bahrain has once again responded to reports coming out of the UK which it claims depict the kingdom "inaccurately".

It replied to a report published by The Guardian which demanded the release of opposition activist Maryam Al Khawaja, who was arrested at Bahrain International Airport on August 30 after assaulting two police officers, according to a report in the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

"It is unfair to oblige a government to exempt any individual from the law, purely on the basis of their international notoriety," said the IAA in a statement.

"In the event of a person refusing to comply with a routine airport inspection, and then pursuing to attack two female officers causing them injuries documented in medical reports, it is standard practice to follow the necessary procedures required in conducting any investigation." – TradeArabia News Service
