Aadil Abedi Calligraphic canvas

Bahrain event to showcase Islamic art

MANAMA, December 1, 2014

Nine artists from Bahrain, the UK and the Indian Subcontinent will together showcase for the first time Islamic calligraphic art and abstract canvases at an upcoming event in the Gulf kingdom.

Crescents will take place on December 7 at the Moda Mall under the patronage of Dr Abdul Latif Kanoo, founder and executive chairman of Beit Al Quran, a multi-purpose complex dedicated to the Islamic arts in Bahrain.

Organised by Art Select, a company founded by Kanika Subberwal, to encourage and advise individuals and companies on art as an investment, this first-of-its-kind exhibition is a must-see, a statement said.

It will take place at the stylish mall’s Jewellery Court. Artists exhibiting at the show include Bahrain’s Shaikha Badriya Al-Khalifa, Uzma Dadabhai and Jamal Abdul Rahim.

The show will welcome Artist-in-residence Aadil Abedi, a young talent from London. His calligraphic works are studded with Swarovski crystals and he has recently been commissioned to create bespoke works by celebrities Shakira and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan.

Artists from the Subcontinent who will be showcasing their works include Tauseef Khan, Mazarine Memon and Suchi Chidambaram from India and Ahmed Khan and Asad Faruki from Pakistan.

The show is supported by world renowned De Beers Jewellery as Presenting Sponsor with Moda Mall as Venue Sponsor and Lincoln as Official Automobile. Supporting sponsors are Asgharali and FlyDubai.

Subberwal, a passionate collector herself, is well-known for her ability to spot new artists and trends in the art world.  “Over the years, we have ridden the wave of growing interest in serious art collection and serve as a link between talented artists and collectors. Today, in addition to offices all over the world and a valuable art collection ourselves, we are seen as a valuable resource for a substantial range of quality art and experts in art as an investment,” she said.

“Art Select has held more than fifty exhibitions throughout Asia and the Middle East and enjoys a diverse client base and stellar reputation, having also forged strategic partnerships with several globally-renowned organizations including Bank Muscat, the Hyatt Hotels, the Ritz Carlton and the Emirates Trading Agency (ETA). Today, Art Select is synonymous with quality, trust and dependability and guards its reputation as a professional House of Art with unflagging commitment,” she added. – TradeArabia News Service
