Dubai Food Fest event celebrates Emirati hospitality

DUBAI, February 28, 2015

The Dubai Food Festival’s final and flavoursome event, Made In Dubai, started yesterday (February 27), celebrating the warm Emirati hospitality while showcasing the entrepreneurial talent emerging in the city through the Dubai SME incubator scheme.

Over 30 of Dubai’s homegrown small to medium-sized enterprises opened for business this morning as part of the Emirati-inspired event at Zabeel Park, offering locally-sourced wares ranging from traditional cuisine and organic produce to fashion and crafts.

Highlighting the talents of emerging business owners in Dubai, Emirati dishes produced by House of Sweets, Umm Khaled Kitchen, Liwa Dates, Mama Tani and Turath Al Mandi were enjoyed by event-goers, who were entertained by live musicians, poets and screenings of movies by Emirati filmmaker, Nayla Al Khaja.

The free-to-attend Made in Dubai saw the final of Dubai’s School of Culinary and Finishing Arts (SCAFA) Junior Chefs Challenge take place.

Judged by celebrity chef and friend of the Festival, Silvena Rowe, as well as owner of Mama Tani, Omar Alshamsi, and Scafa’s academic director, chef Francisco Araya, the junior master chef will be announced soon, said the organisers.

Laila Mohammed Suhail, the CEO at Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), said: "The closing event of this year’s edition of the Dubai Food Festival, the Emirati-inspired Made In Dubai serves to celebrate each element of the city’s warm hospitality and culture - from local cuisine to clothing."

"With this in mind, the Emirate’s homegrown small to medium sized enterprises, as promoted by Dubai SME, are a perfect fit for the event – and it’s fantastic to offer these companies a platform to showcase their offerings to what will be a highly receptive audience," he added.

Abdul Baset Al Janahi, the chief executive of Dubai SME, said: “We are delighted to support Made in Dubai and join the celebration of our local talent along with our members. The SME community in Dubai represents a broad spectrum of initiatives, from innovative projects to established businesses."

"Made in Dubai is an opportunity for residents and visitors to experience how aspiring entrepreneurs are leaving an impact on our flavours, fragrances, fashion and art," stated Al Janahi.

"A critical component of the Dubai SME strategy is to motivate entrepreneurs and their start-ups to display their capabilities at the appropriate forums and share best practices in business development. The fact that over 30 of our members are attending Made in Dubai validates the growing confidence among the SME community," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
