Bahrain announces four-day Eid holiday

MANAMA, June 14, 2018

Ministries, government departments and public enterprises will remain closed on Eid Al Fitr day and during the two following days. Public sector employees will enjoy two additional days holiday in compensation of Friday and Saturday, already days off.

His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday issued a circular announcing the Eid recess.

From an astronomical perspective tomorrow (June 15) should be the first day of Eid, according to Bahrain’s top astronomer.

Declaring Eid is based on several criteria, including the birth of the moon which signals the start of a new month in the Islamic lunar calendar.

The crescent moon has to be seen with the naked eye for Eid Al Fitr to be declared.
