NIA unveils first AC safety helmet for construction workers

DUBAI, 26 days ago

The world’s first AC safety helmet, which is designed and manufactured by Indian tech and safety start-up Jarsh Safety for the outdoor workforce and field executives, was launched today (November 10) in India Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai during the Telangana Week.
The Jarsh-NIA AC Helmet works on patented solid-state cooling technology that provides cooling up to 24ºC.
The premium model for senior executives has a battery life of two hours while the heavy-duty model for the skilled workforce has a 10-hour battery back-up. Four vents across the helmet provide a uniform cooling experience, keeping the user sweat-free, comfortable and productive on the job.
It all started when 20-somethings - Kausthub Kaundinya, Sreekanth Kommula and Anand Kumar - made a prototype of the Jarsh AC Helmet in 2016 after experiencing discomfort while using safety helmets.
Realising its potential in bettering the lives of those at the bottom of the workforce pyramid, they formed a manufacturing start-up and quickly scaled up the helmet’s production.
"We started our journey from a garage office and, over the years, brought smiles to thousands of workers across India. Jarsh Safety is now going global," remarked Kaundinya, CEO of Jarsh Safety.
"We strongly believe that the joint NIA-Jarsh mission can help alleviate the working conditions of the workforce across the world," he added.
This product launch is part of the India Innovation Hub initiative by the Indian Pavilion at the World Expo 2020 wherein the pavilion is showcasing the top 500 most-reputed startups from India. The project is working under the guidance of the Consul General of India in Dubai Dr Aman Puri and with the support of the Indian Diaspora and Prominent Investor Institutions.
The Jarsh-NIA AC Helmet was unveiled by Kaundinya and Kamran Birjees Khan, the Chief Executive Officer of NIA, in the presence of MTH Nia, Founder and Chairman of Nia Limited, at a key ceremony held at the Indian Pavilion.
The helmet will be distributed in the UAE market by Dubai’s NIA Limited, which is also the exclusive regional distributor for a wide range of consumer electronics and home appliances. NIA is the official regional distributor of some of the world’s largest consumer electronics brands, including AEG, Blueair, Bluewater, Daewoo, Gree, Haier, Technogas, and Winia.
The new helmet offers a unique opportunity for construction firms and industrial units to prioritise the comfort of their workforce without compromising on productivity, said the Emirati distributor.
The use of the AC Helmet is not only socially responsible, but it also offers commercial benefits as studies have shown that extreme temperatures can cause thermal exhaustion and heat stress, leading to a decline in productivity, it added.
The collaboration with Jarsh Safety was in line with NIA Limited’s undertaking to spur innovation by supporting start-ups and offering technology-led solutions to long-standing challenges, said Khan.
"The world’s first AC Safety Helmet is designed to keep the industrial, construction and other outdoor workforce and executives comfortable while in a high-temperature environment," he stated.
"The UAE and the wider region is committed to the health, safety, welfare, security, and dignity of its workforce. We hope to see the AC Safety Helmet being adopted as an industry-standard in line with that commitment," he added.
Congratulating Jarsh safety & NIA, Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary of ITE&C Department said: "This is a proud moment for all of us at Telangana when a homegrown startup has been able to close the national boundaries and has gone global. An AC helmet is a revolutionary idea and it’s a matter of pride for us that Jarsh safety has transformed this idea into a financially viable project.”
India is one of the biggest startup hubs and the country is on its way to becoming the innovation capital of the world. India pavilion at Expo 2020 is bringing together the next-generation startup and leaders to discuss and share pertinent ideas, harness collective knowledge and experiences, and frame innovative solutions for a better future.
“This is another great occasion when an Indian company is making products for the world, which is a testament to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Make in India’s product going global,” added Ranjan.
Powered by a rechargeable battery that requires zero maintenance, the Jarsh-NIA AC Safety Helmet offers companies a cost-efficient way of ensuring that their workforces remain safe, comfortable and healthy irrespective of the ambient conditions.
The AC Helmets improve productivity while ensuring the safety and comfort of the workforce. The helmet comes with a pre-installed rechargeable battery pack.
The Jarsh-NIA AC Helmet will be available in four variants:
*Model C: For machine operators. It increases operator efficiency and it can be directly connected to the machine’s low-voltage power source for unrestricted use.
*Model S: For skilled technicians. It enhances workforce productivity and its battery pack offers 10 hours of comfort on a single charge.
*Model E: For management, architects and executives. It is designed for comfortable field visits and its battery pack offers 2 hours of comfort on a single charge.
*Model W: For welding equipment operators. Model W offers additional protection for the eyes, face and neck area. Its battery pack offers 2 hours of comfort on a single charge.
On his innovation, Kaundinya said: "The Jarsh-NIA AC Safety Helmet is a game-changer for the construction and outdoor workforce, especially in a region that is characterised by extreme working conditions during the summer months." -TradeArabia News Service
