Genint clinches key fire alarm deal

Dubai, March 5, 2008

Genint Group is implementing Dh3-million ($816,860) installation project for fire alarm system of Capital Plaza.

Based in Abu Dhabi and with offices in Musafah and Dubai, Genint is the distributor of leading international companies such as the US-based Notifier, which manufactures fire alarm systems; Germany-based Total Walther, which specialises in fire fighting equipment and systems; and Rouchtec, which specialises in manufacturing UL listed Sprinkler Heads.

Fire protection is one of the oldest and primary divisions of Genint, which was presented with the ISO 9001:2000 certificate for all its divisions in 2005.

The move comes as Genint launches an intensified campaign to assist companies to comply with a new ‘checklist’ based on National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) regulations, and help address the alarming increase in fire incidence among high-rise structures.

Genint will provide fire alarm systems to four basement levels, seven podiums levels, and five high-rise towers ranging from 35 to 45 storeys each. Genint's work will involve a series of intricately networked systems installed in Capital Plaza's shopping mall, residential towers, commercial tower and hotel, the company said.

'We are now working with the basement floors and we expect to proceed with the rest of the work without hitches. Installations such as this offer certain challenges and possible complications, which makes it imperative to secure the services of a highly reliable firm. Genint brings a wealth of experience into the job, particularly in terms of familiarity with the local requirements, which has been a key feature that has made Genint a popular choice,' said Genint Business Development Director Saleh Awad.

The Capital Plaza project is distinguished by the networking requirements between all panels in the various buildings, which need to be installed with the alarm system and connected during construction, requiring accurate installation work and highly certified maintenance later on.

'Fire incidence across the country has been alarmingly high the past year, underscoring the great need to install multiple levels of protection for properties. Our fire protection division is certified by the NFPA and the Civil Defence Authority, so we guarantee the highest level of reliability and stability in the fire alarm systems that we install,” Awad added.

According to the latest statistics, fire occurrence has been rising in the country, with the Dubai Civil Defence alone noting a 17 per cent increase in the number of such incidence from February to August 2007. Most of these occurrences involved high-rise buildings and buildings under construction.

Dubai Civil Defence Director Brigadier Rashid Thani Al Matroushi commented that the new NFPA regulations supported the original law but are more detailed and will force companies to adhere to a minimum standard in safety requirements for buildings under construction.

He added that the regulations, which are designed to protect human lives and building structures, will come into force over the next couple of months.

Genint, which has been an industry leader for 25 years, established its subsidiary Gentech in October 2004, which is a company that specialises in design, supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of water treatment systems and plants; design, supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of fire protection and low current systems; and facilities maintenance.  – TradeArabia News Service
