BAE to display combat vehicles at Jordan show

Amman, March 30, 2008

BAE Systems will showcase the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV), during the 7th Special Operations Forces Exhibition and Conference (Sofex) which begins in Amman tomorrow (March 31).

The four-day event will be held at the King Abdullah II Airbase near the Jordanian capital.

The FMTV is the US Army’s medium tactical truck and over 40,000 FMTVs are now in service around the world.

FMTVs are combat-proven, highly-reliable trucks that deliver high performance in demanding combat environments.

As the US Army’s truck, the FMTV is well on its way to becoming the largest modern fleet of medium tactical trucks in the world and global customers can expect a full package of integrated logistic support from a robust support infrastructure for years to come, said a top BAE Systems official.

'The FMTV comprises 21 variants that can provide a wide range of capabilities to military services. The variants include standard cargo trucks, tractors and wreckers,' said David Landecker, sales director, Middle East, part of BAE Systems’ Medium/Heavy Vehicles.

Other variants include dump trucks, expansible vans for field staffs and chassis for missile launchers and air defence.

All FMTV variants have seen service in the Middle East in the last few years and share 80 per cent commonality in their components, he noted.

“Furthermore every variant can be equipped with after-market, combat-proven armoured cabs to increase crew protection,” he added.

Produced in Sealy, Texas, the FMTV display will feature the M1085 A1, supplied by the Jordanian Army, as well as FMTV M1083.-TradeArabia News Service
