DED recycling programme wins award

Dubai, July 19, 2008

The Department of Economic Development (DED) received an appreciation award from the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) for the success of its comprehensive recycling programme.

The programme was launched in co-operation with EEG as part of DED’s corporate social responsibility initiatives.

DED has set up 33 large recycling containers at strategic locations throughout the Department's Head Office in Deira and the Al Rumool Centre, as part of the recycling programme.

The recycling centre consists of three color-coded containers, one each for paper, plastic and cans. These are then forwarded for proper waste management practices, said a DED official.

Ali Ibrahim, deputy director general for executive affairs at DED, said: “Today, governments and Institutions are committed to sustainable development measures and environmental programs to meet the global challenge of climate change and environmental sustainability."

"Our joint efforts with Emirates Environmental Group reiterate our commitment to preserving a clean environment for the overall well-being of the society.”

“The award from EEG will be an added inspiration for us to work for the green Dubai campaign, which we support through the recycling programme,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
