Adnec `green' strategy cuts waste

Abu Dhabi, September 3, 2008

Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (Adnec) has claimed that since launching its environmental strategy “Re-use, Reduce, Recycle” in January 2008, it has saved the equivalent of 900 trees, 200,000 kilowatts of energy and 1.6 million litres of water.

The strategy which was launched to coincide with the World Future Energy Summit in January, has seen the implementation of various environmental initiatives.
This has included the appointment of a dedicated waste-co-ordinator and the introduction of recycling bins and cardboard collection points around the venue.

According to statistics released by Dulsco, the UAE’s leading Waste Management & Services Provider, Adnec has managed to save 88,500 litres of oil and 153 cubic yards of landfill space, in addition to the above, after beginning its programme of waste reduction.

This reduction has come at a time when the venue has been busier than ever staging numerous high profile events and welcoming hundreds of thousands of people through its doors.

“Our environmental strategy has been implemented in response to the environmental challenges faced by the international exhibition industry and we hope that other venues in the region recognise the moral and economic sense of this approach,” said Adnec Group CEO, Simon Horgan.-TradeArabia News Service
