Enpark eyes innovative technology

Dubai, March 24, 2009

Dubai's Energy and Environment Park (Enpark) has held discussions at a workshop with a group of potential vendors specialised in innovative sustainable products and services as part of its final phase of master planning.

A member of Tecom Investments, Enpark, is a sustainable community model for commercial and residential use.

The workshop was held in line with Enpark’s integrated development process that engages stakeholders in a collaborative process to ensure the project derives maximum benefit from diverse experiences and expertise.

The session also aimed to assess the capability of the local market in meeting the unique requirements of the Enpark project that integrates multiple components of sustainable infrastructure such as Leed Gold certified buildings, pedestrian-friendly road network, walk-ability between different spots within the development, solar-powered street lights, local vegetation for landscaping, and recycling infrastructure.

Ali bin Towaih, executive director of Enpark, said: 'As a project that touches everyone’s life, Enpark is designed to provide a positive impact not only on the environment, but on the society and economy as well.'

'It is a smart development that not only drives costs down, but is also more sustainable and encourages a healthy and socially active lifestyle. We invite everyone to submit in writing their exclusive ideas and plans and make this project their own.”

The workshop showcased new technologies such as smart-grid, gas network for cooking, water heating and air-conditioning systems, waste water treatment facilities coupled with re-use of the treated water and city-wide streetscaping concept.

Multinational companies including Metito, JC Decaux, SS Lootah International and BPL presented concepts with a view to exploring the potential of integrating the elements within Enpark.

In addition to Enpark project development team and infrastructure design consultants Hyder Consulting, the representatives of Tecom's various other projects as well as officials from its asset management division and project managers Tamdeen also took part.

In addition to setting the stage for a healthy dialogue among all stakeholders, Enpark’s unique initiative led to the emergence of new ideas, value addition to the master planning process, engagement of vendors at the early stages of a project development and the establishment of a transparent development process.-TradeArabia News Service
