Dornbracht presents ‘crystal-like’ fixtures

Frankfurt, March 29, 2009

Dornbracht has displayed a new lifestyle-oriented series of bathroom fixtures in the form of Supernova at the ISH from March 10 to 14 in Frankfurt.

A fixture of high sculptural quality, Supernova, with its many facets and polygonal surfaces is reminiscent of precision-worked crystal – and as such it impresses its surroundings with ever new reflections of objects and colours.

“With Supernova, we are continuing the series of design innovations of the past two decades,” said Andreas Dornbracht, CEO.

“Supernova represents a cultivated, progressive, unique design. The name of the fixture cites Supernova as the extremely bright flashing of a star during its explosion. With Supernova this flashing is shown by the way it plays with light and refraction.”

In order to bring out the light reflections particularly well, Supernova is available in gleaming surfaces only. At the same time, these surfaces highlight the very destinct, geometric design vocabulary of the fixture.

With Champagne, Dornbracht is introducing an additional gleaming surface especially for Supernova: a light gold that eminently suits the renaissance currently being experienced in interior design and other lifestyle areas.

Champagne is a surface that is both glamorous and progressive, of which the top layer consists of 22 carat gold.

“With Supernova we made a conscious decision to add something new and perhaps polarising to the familiar Dornbracht design vocabulary – the cylinder, the rectangle”, explains Michael Sieger from Sieger Design who designed Supernova.

“The design is emphasised by the distinctive geometry of the discharge and the controls. A slight incline to the front generates dynamic. The deciding factor is, however, the surface design. It’s this which gives Supernova its final appearance.”

In keeping with the sculptural character of the fixture, the architecture of the Supernova lead-bathroom is not a classical space. Instead it becomes lifestyle furniture, which can be freely placed in the room, without definition of space.

“With Supernova we have taken the sculptural quality of the fixture as a starting point for the lead-bathroom architecture,” said Mike Meiré, who is responsible for the leadbathroom architecture and the Dornbracht’s brand director.

“The consequence is an island in the room which locates all functions and zones of the bathroom in the centre. An architecture that also becomes a solitaire,” he added.

If you regard the exposed design more precisely, it is demonstrated that the gleaming surfaces and precise inclines of the fixtures repeatedly reflect the individual, lagoon-like water zones of the solitaire. It seems that the fixture reflect the idea of the architecture in the same way as the architecture reflects the idea of the fixture.

In addition to the lead bathroom, three premium bathrooms and a total of five premium applications were designed.

While the premium bathrooms have a strong reference to lifestyle and fashion similar to the lead bathroom, the premium applications interpret the Supernova in a way that is diversely new and different.

They show how the diversity of the fixture can be transferred to the individual bathroom architecture. The architectures are repeatedly united by exposed and uncompromising aspects.

Supernova is available for all areas of application (washbasin, bathtub, shower, bidet) – with the option of lever handles or handles in cube form.

The product range comprises approximately 60 products which, in addition to single-lever taps and three hole taps, also includes two waterfall taps: for wall mounting and, for the first time at Dornbracht, also free standing. The product range is complemented by suitable accessories. – TradeArabia News Service
