L-3 launches Mideast operations

US-based L-3 Communications (L-3), one of the world’s leading defence and aerospace companies, has launched of its operations in the Middle East.

Its office, established in Abu Dhabi, will be dedicated to serving the needs of its partners and customers in the Middle East region.

The launch, which took place at an event organised by the American Business Group (ABG) of Abu Dhabi, member of the global network of American Chambers of Commerce, was attended by Abu Dhabi’s industry leaders, high-ranking US diplomats and other dignitaries.

“We are proud to support ABG Platinum member L-3 Communications in launching its regional headquarters in Abu Dhabi,” said John L Habib, president of the ABG of Abu Dhabi.

“Abu Dhabi is an attractive choice for US businesses.  We have recently witnessed dramatic growth in the number of US companies opening offices in Abu Dhabi,” he added.

“There is enormous capability and potential in this region and we are eager to both share best practices and to achieve mutually beneficial business partnerships and opportunities,” said Michael T Strianese, chairman, president and chief executive officer of L-3.

With its aerospace and defense expertise, L-3 will support its customers in the areas of integrated communications and other technologies.

L-3 will also provide several programs relevant to integrated security solutions for critical infrastructure protection; waterside security; Satcom-related equipment and training; aircraft modification and repair and the development of joint air, ground and sea tactical ranges.

Major General (ret) Stephen T. Rippe, who will lead L-3’s office in the region, added: “L-3 has a long and rich heritage in aerospace and defence. We are known for our ability to respond quickly to our clients' needs with sophisticated, targeted and significant solutions and we are looking forward to sharing our many resources and capabilities with our clients as we grow in the region.”

Headquartered in New York City and with 2008 sales of  $15 billion, L-3 is a prime contractor in aircraft modernisation and maintenance, C3ISR (command, control, communications, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) systems and government services. L-3 is also a leading provider of high technology products, subsystems and systems.
