Jafza steps up 'go green' initiative

Dubai, June 14, 2009

Jafza has announced the launch of its eco-initiative, 'Think Green', as part of its ongoing environmental activities to mark the World Environment Day.

The campaign is an environment awareness drive created to encourage people to take measures to conserve energy and reduce their carbon footprint on daily basis.

Jafza, together with the Ministry of Environment & Water and Shell Markets Middle East took part in the World Environment Day celebrations held at Dubai Mall recently.

Jafza representatives interacted with the public, distributing leaflets and organising quizzes and educational fun activities related to the environment. The campaign is one of many green initiatives undertaken by Jafza recently.

This year, Jafza also participated in the 'Can Collection Drive 2009' organised by Emirates Environment Group (EEG). The Drive was a record breaking one for EEG, with more than 13,000 cans collected in all.

Other green initiatives undertaken by Jafza include the installation of solar LED lights in the South Zone, FM operator controlled AC that switches off after working hours, the use of condensation water from Jafza View 18 & 19, as well as TechnoPark Office Buildings for water fountains and irrigation.

Besides this the group also dimmed the lights in core areas, set up recycling boxes and planted greenery in different areas within the free zone.

“Reducing the carbon footprint should be a key priority for businesses and individuals based in Dubai,' said Ibrahim Mohammed Al Janahi, chief commercial officer, Economic Zones World, UAE Region.

'UAE has a higher than usual per capita carbon footprint and every company should take necessary measures to reduce it, as a part of their everyday operations and not just as part of a CSR activity,” he pointed out.

In addition to initiating various day-to-day energy saving measures, the Free Zone is home to a number of green warehouses and Leed certified green buildings.

Jafza's parent company Economic Zones World is also involved in numerous sustainable projects around the world. “We believe that green practices can go a long way in preserving the environment and we intend to further energize our efforts, 'he added.-TradeArabia News Service
