Reel Cinemas, the new megaplex at The Dubai Mall, has recorded more than ten thousand movie-goers during its first week, following its opening on August 14.

Ten screens are currently operating, with a further twelve to come on line later this year, said a statement.

The megaplex screened an impressive line-up of international blockbusters in its opening week, including Funny People, G.I. Joe and My Sister’s Keeper.

“The impressive visitor turn-out to Reel Cinemas at The Dubai Mall in its first week of operation is very promising,” said Arif Amiri, chief executive officer, Emaar Retail, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Emaar Malls Group, which owns The Dubai Mall.

“We have opened a world-class cinema and as visitors enter our expansive lobby lounges and cinema halls they can feel the difference. Reel Cinemas will raise the bar on cinema entertainment in Dubai and we look forward to continually entertaining mall visitors with our movie screenings.”

The halls at Reel Cinemas have been built to above-industry standards, offering ergonomically designed seating with the widest legroom for visitors’ utmost comfort. Wider aisles and greater distance from the screen to the first row of seats are other added features.

Amiri added: “Reel Cinemas is on track to becoming the premier destination for movie-goers in Dubai. So far we have received excellent reviews from movie-goers, with many commenting in particular on the high sound and picture quality in the theatres.”

Suhaimi Rafdi, chief executive officer of Cathay Organisation, one of Singapore's leading leisure and entertainment groups, said: “Before the design and construction of Reel Cinemas even began, we already had in mind a superior, world-class Cineplex with top-notch facilities and technology that would provide only the best movie experiences for movie-goers.”
