IHC partners with Oxfam for humanitarian efforts

Dubai, October 31, 2009

Dubai's International Humanitarian City (IHC) has agreed with Oxfam, the movement dedicated to fighting poverty, to cooperate and organise future partnerships in the fields of humanitarian services and climate change.

Oxfam also committed to support the IHC's humanitarian programs and help develop the expertise and capabilities of IHC staff who are working in humanitarian fields.

'IHC's partnership with Oxfam serves as an important step towards achieving our ultimate goal of providing local and international humanitarian services and reach out to as many people as possible,' said Makiya Al Hajiri, IHC chief executive.

'We have witnessed tremendous humanitarian efforts by IHC and we intend to complement IHC's future campaigns by sharing our expertise and helping them identify new opportunities to further boost humanitarian services,' added Barbara Stocking, chief executive of Oxfam.

IHC has taken a proactive stance in fighting climate change, particularly in view of its devastating impact on the lives of underprivileged people. IHC revealed that the negative impact of climate change has been more pronounced among the poorest areas around the world, affecting crop harvests, water supplies and causing unprecedented floods.

Oxfam is a confederation of 14 like-minded organisations working together with partners and allies around the world to bring about lasting change within the lives of poor people. Oxfam works directly with communities and seeks to influence powerful individuals and global institutions to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods and have a say in decisions that affect them.
