Bahrain unveils roadmap to the future

Manama, December 18, 2009

His Majesty King Hamad outlined the growth roadmap for Bahrain in an address to the nation on the 10th anniversary of his accession to the throne.

Spurring Bahrain's material resources was described as a key goal in the ambitious roadmap that was outlined on Thursday to ensure Bahrain's future prosperity.

'We are sparing no efforts with friendly and brotherly countries to ensure the necessary energy resources for upbeat urban and housing expansion momentum to continue, His Majesty said.

Pumping more investments to boost the national economy was also described as essential for projects to materialise and thrive. 'We hope to acquire, in the near future, more energy resources generating more revenues,' King Hamad added.

Cementing social harmony, now prevalent in Bahrain, between all segments ranked high on His Majesty's agenda. 'A harmonious society rests firmly on national unity above anything else,' the King said.

'We won't ever pursue our march and achieve citizens' aspirations towards progress and prosperity unless stability and social harmony prevail'.

He urged all citizens to focus on this national goal and preserve it, lest we forget. 'We have to join ranks and stand united to achieve this lofty goal as one hand does not clap alone,' His Majesty said.

Joining forces, he said, does not only mean achieving social harmony, but it also means protecting landmark achievements.

In this respect, His Majesty vowed to protect national achievements so far, as they represent the raison d'etre and basis of the reform project he initiated.

He stressed the vital importance of disseminating a culture of law within society for the reform project to thrive.

'Respecting the law and abiding by its provisions are key indicators of a truly civilised society,' His Majesty said.

'Societies do not progress unless they have sovereign laws. Our constitution is the father of the law which finds its home in the National Assembly,' the King said.

The guarantors of the law, he said, are the loyal people and the civilised people and conscientious citizens who can't produce and create unless the law prevails.

His Majesty said he was looking forward to seeing Bahrain enjoy the industrial and trade reputation it deserves, being endowed with competent and talented human resources.

King Hamad cited the abundance of proficient Bahraini professionals and well-able traders. He also stressed the key importance of modernising Bahrain's infrastructure - bridges, harbours, airports and road networks - to reach the desired goal.

Optimising administrative control mechanisms was also stressed in His Majesty King Hamad's keynote speech. 'We are resolved to activate administrative control, as Bahrain boasts long-standing administratve practices,' he said.

Such a goal, His Majesty said, would build up on our success in consolidating financial controls.'National financial auditing has become established among signs of transparency,' he added.-TradeArabia News Service
