World’s top wakeboarders for Abu Dhabi event

Abu Dhabi Beaches, in partnership with Flash Entertainment, the Abu Dhabi-based live events firm, will bring the world’s leading wakeboarders to an upcoming beach event in Abu Dhabi.

Wakestock Abu Dhabi 2010 will be held from March 4 to 6 at the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

In what is the latest exciting addition to Abu Dhabi’s sports and entertainment calendar, the introduction of the World Pro Tour Water Sports event marks the next chapter in the development of the Abu Dhabi Corniche and the delivery of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi city’s vision of the ‘ultimate beach experience’, a statement said.

“We take pride in the magnitude of the events and attractions that Flash brings to Abu Dhabi,” said John Lickrish, managing director, Flash Entertainment.

“We strive to offer the public new and diverse events and entertainment. With Wakestock, the illustrious wakeboarding title, we are adding yet another string to our bow, and the event is formally recognised as the first official stop of the WWA World Pro-Series Tour,” he added.

Wakestock Abu Dhabi will be the first stop on the 2010 WWA Wakeboard World Series and with the biggest names in the sport, World Pro Tour status and performances from great live acts and DJs, Wakestock has established itself as the world’s premiere wakeboarding and music festival.

In addition to the world’s best wakeboarders battling it out head to head for a $50,000 prize purse, the event will feature live music from the some of the hottest international and regional acts around spread out over the Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Mark Durston, Wakestock Founder and CEO, said: “Abu Dhabi’s Corniche, and the public beach in particular, is without a doubt one of the most amazing urban beaches I have ever seen. From Lulu Island to the backdrop of the city itself, and the beautiful blue waters of the Arabian gulf, I cannot imagine a more perfect setting for this fantastic sport and music event.”

As an official stop on the World Series, the event will contribute points to the world rankings ensuring the best wakeboarders in the world will be in attendance, showcasing this spectacular sport with a level of riding never seen before in the region.

Amongst the big name riders already confirmed to attend are current WWA World Series Champion Phillip Soven, WWA World Wakepark Champion Nick Davies, current US National Champion Adam Errington, current World Champion  and King of Wake Champion Aaron Rathy, European Champion and four times Wakestock UK winner Dan Nott and wakeboarding legend Parks Bonifay.

The competition will feature three massive custom-built floating rails specifically designed for the event. – TradeArabia News Service
