Green lighting ‘can save 40pc energy’

Dubai, August 3, 2010

A global switch to energy-efficient lighting systems could potentially save $151.75 billion in energy bills, representing an overall 40 per cent reduction in energy use, said an expert.

“Lighting costs account for 16-25 per cent of the total energy consumption worldwide,” said Wilbert Heijmans, group exhibitions director at Dubai-based Epoc Messe Frankfurt, a subsidiary of Messe Frankfurt, Germany’s leading trade fair organizer.

“Increased awareness of the importance of implementing green lighting solutions has led to lighting manufacturers rolling out a raft of innovative solutions that are both energy-efficient and reduce carbon emissions significantly.”

In this background, Epoc Messe Frankfurt is organising Light Middle East 2010, a leading trade event and conference for urban, architectural, theatrical and retail lighting solutions, at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 31 to November 2.

The event will feature latest developments in LED and other environmentally friendly lighting technology solutions and design by the world’s leading manufacturers including Phillips, Osram, Thorn, Ruud Lighting Arabia and iGuzzini.

In addition to the latest developments and innovations in energy-efficient lighting systems, Light Middle East will also feature a three-day conference that will feature a range of world leading speakers and focus on efficient lighting solutions such as LED technology and the latest on LEED certification.

The conference with a different main theme each day is set to be a must-attend event for professionals working in the lighting and architectural industries, Heijmans said. – TradeArabia News Service
