Vegetable prices in Bahrain 'likely to drop'

Vegetable prices in Bahrain are expected to drop by 30 to 40 per cent in the coming three days, a Consumer Protection Directorate survey showed.

It said prices of some seasonal fruit, including peaches, apricots and cherries, have decreased by 40 per cent to 50 per cent. Grape and melon prices have dropped by 20 per cent, while water melon prices remained stable, it said.

The survey also showed prices of 16 vegetables dropped by 30 per cent to 60 per cent last month compared to last Ramadan, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.

Meanwhile, Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro visited LuLu Hypermarket at Al Dana Shopping Mall and Manama Central Market where he was briefed on prices of fruit and vegetables and trading on the second day of Ramadan.

Hypermarket retail operations director John Andreas and director general Joseph Taher highlighted their promotions, said to be the biggest and best, compared with past years.

They stressed the stability of prices and availability of sufficient food stocks.

Fruit and vegetable traders at Central Market also stressed the stability of prices and said they were the lowest in the Gulf region, with sufficient stocks in the local market. – TradeArabia News Service
