Bahrain's transparent and honest approach to the recent challenges has resulted in major reforms, the Foreign Minister said yesterday in his address to the UN General Assembly session in New York.

The kingdom dealt with those challenges by creating the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry to establish the truth, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa stated.

"Consequently, a comprehensive dialogue took place among various sections of society and resulted in a series of constitutional and legislative reforms encompassing all aspects of life: political, social and legal," he explained.

Shaikh Khalid said as part of ongoing efforts to assert Bahrain's commitment to protecting human rights, the government had accepted more than 90 per cent of recommendations made by the Human Rights Council in Geneva last week.

He revealed His Majesty King Hamad's plan to create an Arab Court of Human Rights was also gaining momentum.

"The Council of the Arab League endorsed this historic initiative and arrangements are currently underway to set forth the legal basis for the establishment of the court, which, it is hoped, will become a reality very soon," said the minister.-TradeArabia News Service
