HRH the Premier

Bahrain to step up anti-terror measures

Manama, August 1, 2013

New steps to confront terrorism and street violence in Bahrain were highlighted by a top official  during a visit to the Interior Ministry by HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

Interior Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa outlined plans to maintain security and stability just a day after the Cabinet reviewed emergency legislation approved by the National Assembly to help restore order on the streets, reported the Gulf Daily, our sister publication.

“Today we are dealing with organised and systematic terror endangering security and stability,” the Premier told senior ministry officials.

He also conveyed the support of His Majesty King Hamad and HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier.

The Premier highlighted the key role played by the security services and described tough new laws approved by the National Assembly as evidence that officers on the frontline had the public’s backing.

National Assembly stance hailed

The Premier also visited the National Assembly where he met parliament chairman Dr Khalifa Al Dhahrani and Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh.

He commended the National Assembly for taking the initiative to convene an extraordinary session to pass tougher anti-terror laws.

He described the stance as being in tune with the wishes of the people, who lost patience with terror and want public order to be restored.

He said the government had already started enforcing the tough legislation on the ground, paying tribute to the co-operation between the executive and legislative authorities in the fight against terror.

He also stressed Bahrain's right to defend itself and protect its stability, independence and people's security and safety.

The Premier stressed the importance of building a security and community strategy to give the government more power to face challenges, combat the scourge of terror and maintain security and stability.

"We are determined to consolidate the pillars of security and stability for Bahrain to remain an oasis of peace and a prosperous business hub," he said. – TradeArabia News Service
